The benefits of wind energy are starting to be realized by companies around the world as more wind towers and wind farms are produced. The realization that the cost of wind energy runs about 2.5 cents per kilowatt-hour is astounding. If 25 percent of a consumer’s energy were provided by wind energy, it would cost the consumer roughly 5 dollars a month to supply that energy.Wind energy is becoming more cost and energy efficient as the technology and improvements behind wind power grows. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) shows that larger wind towers generate more energy and are more cost efficient than the smaller towers generally used in the early 80s.
Modern rotors have larger diameters which increases the amount of kilowatts generated, making them more efficient at doing so. In 1980 the average rotor was 10 meters and produced 45,000 kilowatts per hour. In 2000, the average rotor was 71 meters and produced 5.6 million kilowatts per hour and was almost $2,000 cheaper at doing it.
Dewind, a subsidiary of Composite Technology (OTCBB: CPTC), is a manufacturer of wind turbines that have superior operating performance and reliability. They compete in the $20 billion market that is growing worldwide while the availability of turbines are limited.
The Global Wind Energy Council projects that $1.4 trillion will be spent on wind power through 2020. According to the AWEA the U.S. market alone will grow from 11.6 gig watts (gw) in 2006 to 100gw in 2020.
Dewind’s top of the line turbine, the D8.2, is the only turbine that uses Voith WinDrive. The D8.2 model converts variable wind speeds to a constant speed output to drive a synchronous generator at high voltage. Dewind plans the delivery of 18 D8.2 turbines by the end of 2007 which is worth approximately $40 million.
Dewind seems poised to expand and generate increased revenues in the growing wind power market. Revenue in the fourth quarter of last year was 3 million, and after the first quarter of 2007 the company has already generated 6 million. The stock price has increased 33 cents, or 22 percent, yesterday afternoon, to $1.81 per share.
