MIPSolutions Inc. (MSOL.OB) – Isolating Molecules for Profits

The most amazing things happen when our bodies are invaded by an intruder, whether it’s a virus or a bacterium. Our body sends specialized cells to “envelope” the virus and then bring a “molded form” of that invader back to the lymph system, where our immune system can create cells patterned from the molds that are designed to go “lock onto” the surface of the virus and render them helpless. It’s the “shape”, or more precisely the contour of the surface of the bacteria or virus, that our immune system can identify, isolate and ultimately render harmless.

MIPSolutions, which trades under the symbol MSOL, is using a technology that’s stunningly similar to the way our immune system works, but they are employing it in a much different way. MIPSolutions is focused on the development of technologies to be deployed in the mining, environmental, medical, and potable water markets. Their technology is supported by a License Agreement with The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and their own intellectual property. This technology incorporates a process that selectively captures target molecules which, after being isolated, can be released and disposed of or concentrated into a pure and salable product.

The magic behind MSOL’s approach is their molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) technology. This unique technology targets specific molecules and ions, such as hazardous contaminants and/or valuable commodity metals, then captures them though a proprietary process quite similar in approach to the way our immune system “makes a mold” of an invader.

By using the MIP technology, molecules and ions of a specific toxin, for instance, could be “molded”, and then introduced into a solution where it would “lock on” to all of those specific toxins. The polymer is then “unlocked” from the toxin and used again and again. If (and when) enough of the specific toxin – say arsenic – is captured, it can actually be a salable industrial product. Thus the system allows environmental liabilities to be converted into commercial products. Imagine taking every molecule of mercury out of our drinking water, and yet producing a valuable, salable, industrial product while doing so.

This system of specific targeting of desirable molecules and ions opens up a whole new world of possibilities, ranging from mining to medical, industrial waste to water treatment, and beyond. The possibilities are limitless, and the opportunities enormous.
