I’m not a mother, but I have plenty of friends who are. And the only thing worse than being around a screaming and outraged child is being around a sick, screaming and outraged child. As if touching a searing hot forehead isn’t enough to realize the child is sick, I’ve seen what happens when one of my friends attempt to invasively take their child’s temperature. Whether by ear, mouth or “other” methods, it’s not a pretty sight.Enter American Scientific Resources (Pink Sheets: ASFX). One of the company’s subsidiaries, Kidz Med Inc., has created a product that’s going to ramp me to the top of every baby shower invitation list. The Kidz-Med Thermofocus is the first non-contact clinical thermometer on the market. The thermometer uses infrared technology that can read the temperature of inanimate objects (such as bathwater or milk), adults, or screaming children without touching the body. This is great for those women who tire from dodging projectile vomit or angrily thrown chew rings.
“You can take the temperature of a sleeping child, you can take the temperature of a combative child … it’s an infrared thermometer that allows the acquisition of the temperature without actually touching the patient,” Christopher Tirotta, CEO of American Scientific, told Market News First.
The thermometer is used by moving the device close to the forehead at a distance indicated by the device. The temperature is then displayed on a digital display.
“We expect [Thermofocus] to be our flagship product, we are going to be launching an infomercial campaign to introduce it to consumers this summer … and we expect it to be available on retail shelves this fall,” said Tirotta.
