Early Movers with Big News

Sycamore Networks (Nasdaq: SCMR) shares are up 19 cents, nearly 5 percent, to $4.23 this morning, rolling off news released this week that the company will start an Research & Development center in China. According to the press release, launching a new center will assist the company in “tapping” into the technical talent in China. The R&D center will engage in advances for the company’s existing products, as well as new product development.

Carrier Access Corp. (Nasdaq: CACS) announced today it is complete optimization solution for wireless backhaul. In the statement, the company said the software and technology will assist network providers in optimizing their networks, performing optimization across time division multiple access, global system for mobile communication, and universal mobile telecom system simultaneously – in short, the technology is expected to provide a solution for wireless technologies at a cell site. In response to the news, shares of Carrier Access climbed 25 cents, or 5 percent, to $4.99 Friday morning.

China Bak Battery (Nasdaq: CBAK) shares are slightly up, 8 cents, about 2 percent, to $4.00 in early Friday trading. This morning the company announced it will host a conference call Thursday, August 2, 2007, to discuss its financial results for the period ended June 30, 2007. China Bak manufactures lithium-based battery cells applicable to cell phones, laptops, cordless power tools and other consumer electronics.
