Week Begins with Erratic Session

Monday was a day of mixed news, trading, and feelings on Wall Street. In the morning, just as it appeared that Friday's downward momentum would continue, news of gains in the energy sector coupled with optimistic bargain-hunters influenced a strong rebound, but by 1:00 p.m. ET, stocks began to sink again. Again shortly after two-o'clock, the Dow attempted to break into green territory, but continued to face resistance near its open of 8,495 points.
