Consumer Confidence Rises for Third-Straight Month; Future Contingent on Unemployment Rates

The Conference Board today said its consumer confidence index rose to 55.9 in January, up from 53.6 reported in December, marking the third-consecutive increase and the highest level in more than a year. The index beat economists’ January forecast of 53.5. The report fueled another day in the green on Wall Street, marking the second day of gains spurred by consumer confidence.
