American National Insurance Company reported a large increase in net income for the second quarter of 2010. The company earned net income of $26.6 million, or $1.00 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $4.4 million, or ($0.16) per diluted share, in the same quarter of 2009. First Citizens BancShares Inc. reported net income of $28.6 million, or $2.74 per share, in the second quarter of 2010. The company earned net income of $6.2 million, or $0.59 per share, for the same period in 2009.
